Historically and culturally, religion and politics have played integral roles in my family and in its ancestral background for many generations and continue to play a pivotal role today. History and culture have been two interdisciplinary studies that have helped to shape my beliefs and encompass the religious and political parts of my family's being. They are relevant to this project because both are often addressed when it comes to the Haynes’ history and because I have a strong belief that history and culture have been very important in the Black community.
